In 1887, Gustave Sennelier, a devoted chemist, established himself as a purveyor of fine-artists’ paints at 3 Quai Voltaire facing the Louvre and steps away from L’ecole des Beaux-Arts. Having thoroughly researched the history and usage of pigments, his work was so meticulous and his eye for colour so accurate that artists soon began to regard the Sennelier palette as the ultimate standard of quality.

Sennelier inks, which are likened to Indian inks, and are available in a selection of high quality colours. Extremely rich, these inks are manufactured with shellac gum giving each shade unique brilliance, brightness and vibration under light. They can be applied with a brush or ink pen. They dry rapidly and display a high degree of water resistance, without being indelible. These inks are highly sought after for calligraphy, quill drawings, washes, for textile creations and materials research.
